| Key Policy Message: - Despite having relatively low population densities, inadequate access to land is one of the major causes of rural poverty in Zambia. - The apparent paradox of inadequate access to land for many rural households in a country of low population density is partially reconciled when taking into account that economically viable arable land requires at least some degree of access to basic services, water, road infrastructure, and markets. | La contratación en el valle de Culiacán, Sinaloa, de los servicios de mecanización, mejor conocida con el nombre de maquila agrícola, es una actividad utilizada por un sector significativo de productores agrícolas, tanto los de tipo empresarial como los de carácter campesino. Así, si bien los grandes productores generalmente poseen maquinaria, algunos utilizan la maquila regularmente, ampliándose el número de contratantes de los servicios de maquila agrícola entre los medianos y, aún más, entre los pequeños productores, aunque sea en actividades mínimas y puntuales dentro del ciclo agrícola. | The paper examines the rural land and labour markets in the context of economic liberalization in India. Land and labour are the two fundamental resources available to the rural people for income generation. The access to land and to employment for labour become basic determinants of well-being for the rural households. Mediante revisión bibliográfica se seleccionaron los factores ambientales que presentan mayores restricciones para el uso urbano como inundación, relieve, pendiente, suelo y uso del suelo. | We quantify the emergence of biofuel markets and its impact on U.S. and world agriculture for the coming decade using the multi-market, multi-commodity international FAPRI (Food and Agricultural Policy Research Institute) model. The model incorporates the trade-offs between biofuel, feed, and food production and consumption and international feedback effects of the emergence through world commodity prices and trade. | This study extends previous empirical research on land preservation by considering an actual land preservation scheme, the agricultural land reserve in British Columbia, Canada. The reserve was established in 1973 to ensure that development did not occur on the province’s most productive agricultural land. ‘To ensure that local food production is maintained,’ ‘the economic importance of British Columbia’s agricultural sector,’ and ‘to protect the environment’ are the most important factors that underlie support for the reserve. Aggregate, provincewide willingness to pay to maintain the land reserve is substantial, with our most conservative estimate being Can$91.18 million per year. |
